How to choose a Badminton Racket

With different number of rackets available in the market, it is very complicated to choose the best racket. Each player has different style of play and one size fits all approach do not apply.

In this post we will cover different type of racket available in the market and how to find the best one. There are various factors which can influence your decision.

1. Weight of the Badminton: Very first point to consider is weight of the racket. Light weight rackets are easy to control and provides you with extra speed. Since light weight rackets are easy to control, it reduces the chance of injury. On the other hand, heavy weight rackets provides you extra power. These are used by experienced players for extra strength. Since they carry extra weight, they are hard to control and may cause injuries. Weight of the rackets are measured in U. 3U rackets are more famous with single players, whereas 4U rackets are preferred by double players for their light weight. Here is an example.

2. Balance Point: Balance at the head, balance at the handle and neutral balance. Balance at the head provide extra power, and hence you can put extra power into the smash. However, it is not easy to control. If the balance is at the handle it provides greater control and quick reaction time. Neutral balance
point provide perfect balance between speed and power.

3. Shape of head: Rackets are available in two head shapes: Oval and Isometric. Isometric rackets are wider at the top and hence provide larger sweet spot.

4. Type of material: Badminton rackets are made of different materials like Aluminium, steel, and graphite. Aluminium and steel is used in entry level racket because of the low price. If you have budget, go for graphite made rackets, they are high performance rackets.

5. String Tension: Higher string tension rackets are more suited for experienced player, as it increases the control. Since string beds are tighter, there is less bounce from the string, and player have to put extra effort to generate power. On the other hand lower string tension offer softer bed and more bounce, therefore it is easy to generate extra power.

So those were few key points you can consider before purchasing a new racket. Thank you and all the Best.
